How can microdermabrasion improve my skin?
Microdermabrasion is resurfacing treatment that removes the topmost layer of your skin to stimulate the regeneration of newer skin cells and plump up your collagen. By removing the old cells it helps to even out the tone and improve the texture of the skin.
Microdermabrasion works by gently rubbing a diamond-tipped wand against the skin on your face. It can be used on the face, neck, décolleté and hands.
Your microdermabrasion treatment begins with a skin analysis and a mild glycolic peel. This means that your skin is really well prepared for the microdermabrasion. The appropriate diamond tipped crystal-free microdermabrasion wand is then selected. Gentle, yet effective, exfoliation occurs as the wand is drawn across the skin in combination with a mild suction force which pulls the skin against the diamond-coated tip.
Most clients say that the treatment is painless, some say it is like a pleasant massage sensation.
When will I notice the effects of a microdermabrasion treatment?
Most people experience better skin texture within a few days after their first treatment. They say that their skin feels softer and smoother after microdermabrasion. If you have a course of five microdermabrasion treatments (once every two weeks) this helps to soften fine lines and reduce age spots, plus it can give you a better skin texture and more even colour and tone.
What is the downtime after a microdermabrasion treatment?
You can usually go straight back to work or your normal activities after microdermabrasion. It truly is a lunchtime procedure for most people, as it only takes about 30 minutes and there is little redness and no bruising afterwards as no needles are involved. You can also apply your usual make-up after the treatment.
How long does a treatment last for and what happens to my skin as the microdermabrasion treatment effects wear off?
Microdermabrasion is a natural treatment in that it makes your own skin do the work of regenerating new cells as the old ones are removed by the diamond-tipped wand. This means that the effects of a treatment, and especially a course of treatments, can last for several months if not longer. Gradually the ageing process of your skin will show itself again and you may chose to have regular treatments to keep your more refreshed and youthful look.
Can I have microdermabrasion along with other treatments?
Chemical peels and photorejuvenation are often used in combination with, and sometimes as an alternative to microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion can work very well with injectable treatments like Botox, so that you get a fresher look in areas that cannot be treated with Botox, like the lower two thirds of the face, hands, neck and decolleté.
